Carlos Piqueras Medina: Embankment sides

Here, in these villages in Campo de Montiel, combine faithfully the delusions and the reasons, the high and the plain.

Near Villamanrique, on the outskirts of the village, such as candles that are folded by the drains of the Sierra,  some headlands of silt  are formed by the northwest side, that by the time and the cracks that cut them in the relentless summers, divide into halves or quarters to expose the stratified age of the embankments.

Curiosity and admiration that produce that who observes a herd of fierce cows grazing at the plains, as they border the slopes and as they carefully go down to the stubble.

The small plateaus that have been filled for centuries are good for planting and close to “carry”. They are family partitions, in lots of two bushels of earth, of fifty sticks at bedside and long until the path of the Hueco.

At times, in a small “restregon” of soil and about a kilometer far from the village, it was the little house of road workers, who fixed the ditches and trenches of the road to la Torre. This road goes on through the middle of one of the embankments and it remains being at a comfortable distance for a walk in the summer evenings.

We are to the very South of Campo de Montiel, where Sierra Morena begins by San Cristobal, El Vizcaíno, La Rinconada, el Cerrajero and the twenty kilometres way between the mountain chains, to the Andalusian Aldeaquemada and Despeñaperros.

Here, Cervantes withdrew the seedy Don Quixote after a scuffle with the slaves enchained, ” … and guiding Sancho on his donkey, they entered by a side of Sierra Morena, which was very close to them, carrying Sancho intention of crossing through it all and leave it towards the Viso, or Almodóvar del Campo and hide some days by those rough lands, not to be found if the “Hermandad” sought”.

Here, in these villages in Campo de Montiel, combine faithfully the delusions and the reasons, the high and the plain.
